Women gain skills, knowledge at MFU’s Eastern MT Women’s Conference

More than 30 women from Eastern Montana left Montana Farmers Union’s Eastern Montana Women’s Conference with newly formed and deepened connections with other women in ag and resources, as well as new practical knowledge to apply to their farms and ranches.

“There is so much energy and power when you gather rural and agricultural women together to learn, share, and support one another,” said Rachel Prevost, MFU’s member services and government affairs director. “Rural and agricultural women are resilient. Whether it’s in production ag or serving on the school board, they are stepping up in their communities, families, and on their farms to make decisions that matter for the up-and-coming generations.”

The conference, held Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Malta, featured speakers on topics from what to do in emergency situations until EMS crews are able to arrive to understanding ag markets to mental health and wellness to hands on workshops. Event attendees also heard from Megan Torgerson, founder of the award-winning podcast Reframing Rural.

As part of MFU’s ongoing work to strengthen local and regional food supply chains, the menu featured Montana-sourced food, including from Math Farms, 41 Grains, Wickens Ranch, and Montana Lamb and Beef.

In an effort to maintain and strengthen connections made during both the Eastern Montana and the MFU Women’s Conference held at Fairmont, Ladies Who Ag events are offered throughout the year. To learn more or find events near you, visit www.montanafarmersunion.com
