Schweitzer elected to fourth term as MFU President

Walter Schweitzer will serve a fourth two-year term at the helm of Montana Farmers Union as the grassroots organization’s president.

Schweitzer, who ranches near Geyser, said he is proud to be at the helm of an ag organization actively representing family farmers and ranchers through uncertain times and excited by the number of producers stepping into leadership roles.

“Organizations depend on engaged members and their willingness to take on leadership roles. Many Agricultural organizations are struggling to recruit young leaders to take over the reins. Our MFU board is fortunate to have so many young leaders filling that role. Their engagement is a large reason our membership has been experiencing growth,” Schweitzer said.

Members also elected several board members who play an active role in MFU and its programs, as well as the MFU Foundation, which awards grants and scholarships.

New to MFU’s board is John Wicks from Ledger, who will serve as District 2 Director for a three-year term. The position was previously held by Rollie Schlepp. Schlepp, a longtime board member who also served as MFU’s vice president, has announced his retirement from MFU leadership.

Incumbents Mark Siderius from Kalispell (District 6) and Ben Peterson from Judith Gap (District 5&6 At Large) were elected to retain their current seats for three-year terms.

Doug Crabtree was elected to the role of Conductor and Heather Siderius as Doorkeeper.

Montana Caise, Tammy Copenhaver, Ryan Gunderson, Carissa McNamara, Beau Milton, Heather Siderius, and Grayce Siderius will represent MFU as voting delegates during National Farmers Union’s Annual Convention in the coming Spring.
