Schweitzer: Gov’t Shutdown Slap in Farmers’ Faces

The government shutdown will negatively impact Montana farmers and ranchers, delaying technical assistance, emergency and conservation payments, and loan processes, Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer said.

“The government shutdown on the eve of the Farm Bill extension expiration is just another slap in the face of farmers,” Schweitzer said. “The refusal of the party in control to negotiate a budget that prioritizes farmers and the working class over the richest Americans is shameful. The White House and Congress need to quit their petty grandstanding and pass a common sense budget and Farm Bill.”
