MFU offers Community Grants, apply by May 4

Montana Farmers Union is pleased to announce that its Montana Farmers Union Foundation Community Grants applications are now open through May 4.

“The MFU Foundation Community Grants provide funding that has meaningful and immediate impact for Montana agriculture from production to education and many projects in between,” said MFU Executive Director Rachel Prevost. “These grants are not only an investment in the projects but in the future of agriculture in Montana as producers, communities, and schools think innovatively about the future and we work together toward resilient rural communities and strong Montana food systems.”

Montana Farmers Union is a grassroots organization, and the Foundation’s grant program dovetails with MFU’s principles of cooperation and education to buoy rural communities. Since the grants’ inaugural awards in 2022, the Foundation has awarded and leveraged more than $100,000 for projects in rural communities that range from farming documentaries to children’s books about agriculture to greenhouses to community gardens to plasma cutters to life-size beef models. In 2025 alone, projects received more than $40,000.

The Community Grants funding supports projects which align with the MFU Foundation’s Mission to create new opportunities and contribute to the growth and enhancement of Montana agriculture and rural communities. Projects must include an educational component for youth and/or adults, with priority given to rural communities and projects that advance regenerative, resilient, and sustainable agricultural practices.

Submission deadline is May 4, with grants open to anyone from Montana. The application form remains simple so as not to deter submissions and be responsive to community needs.

The application is available at https://montanafarmersunion.com/education/scholarships-grants/.
