Explore agriculture in the Lewistown area during pre-convention farm tours during Montana Farmers Union’s 110th Annual State Convention the afternoon of Oct. 30, followed by a farm-to-table dinner. Transportation is provided for the tours, with the bus leaving the Yogo Inn at 1 p.m., and dinner rounding out the day at Brooks Market in Lewistown.
Attendees will tour Wickens Ranch, a fourth-generation ranch near Winifred committed to producing delicious beef and making it more convenient to buy local. As the Aldo Leopold Conservation Award recipient and Montana’s Savory Institute Hub, Wickens Ranch is working to help other ranchers and farmers understand and apply regenerative ranching practices.
Tour participants also will tour Badger Hill Orchard, a permaculture fruit orchard west of Lewistown, where they will view it’s fruit trees, groundcover, vines, root crops, perennials, subs, and canopy trees.
The cost for the tours and dinner is $30, or $20 for either the tours or dinner. Register when registering for Convention at MFU’s website.
MFU’s Convention Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Yogo Inn in Lewistown also offers opportunities to finalize policy to guide the organization in the coming year, keynote speaker Jason DeShaw, elections for MFU leadership, Halloween fun for the whole family, and more! Other Convention highlights include: A free kids Day Camp for children ages 5-12 on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 and the Family Farm Succession Planning Institute to be offered for the first time this year on Nov. 2 also at the Yogo Inn.
