20 Apr Camperships available: Community support offsets costs of Arrowpeak camps for families
Camperships are available for campers to attend Montana Farmers Union’s low-cost, high-impact Summer Camp at Arrowpeak programs this summer, thanks to community support.
A $1,000 grant awarded by the Leroy and Claris Strand Foundation will cover the cost of attending camp for several campers from Belt, Fort Benton, Geraldine, Geyser, Highwood, Raynesford, and Stanford. In addition to the funding for scholarships, the Strand Foundation also awarded MFU $500 to purchase new recreation equipment for camp. For 27 years, the Leroy and Claris Strand Foundation has donated to non-profit organizations in the communities of Belt, Fort Benton, Geraldine, Geyser, Highwood, Raynesford, and Stanford.
The MFU Teton County Local also is continuing its longstanding support of MFU Camp at Arrowpeak with several camperships available for campers from Teton, Pondera, and Cascade counties.
There are several additional sources of camp scholarship funds available. Awards may be given based on geographic location of the camper, financial need of the family, previous participation in MFU events and activities, or other criteria as determined by the funds’ provider. Applications are evaluated and awarded on a rolling basis. Financial aid awards are subject to availability of funding.
“We are very grateful for the support of our MFU Locals and the Strand Foundation. Montana Farmers Union Arrowpeak Camp builds resilient leaders, creative individuals, and a sense of belonging. Our programs bring participants closer to agriculture, communities, nature, and promote the call for stewardship of our environment. Since 1958, Montana Farmers Union Camp has built resilience, independence, and growth through our overnight camp program,” MFU Education Director Jodi Koterba said.
Registration remains open for the popular summer camp programs that focus on cooperatives and agriculture, with plenty of summer fun included. This summer’s theme is Neon Nights and Northern Lights.
