Congress is responsible for funding the government by passing 12 appropriations bills each year by September 30.
This year, the Republican-controlled House has passed only 3 of 12 bills—and none have been agreed to by both chambers.
As a result, we’re facing a government shutdown with no reauthorized Farm Bill—leaving critical farm and food programs in limbo.
Who’s Responsible
The Republican Party controls the White House, Senate, and House.
Montana’s entire Congressional Delegation is Republican.
They have the power—and the duty—to fund the government and reauthorize the Farm Bill.
Let’s hold our leaders accountable. Montanans deserve a functioning government—and a fair farm economy.
Why It Matters
Instead of doing their job to fund the government, Congressional leaders focused on a budget reconciliation bill that:
Raised the national debt by $5 trillion
Cut taxes for the wealthiest by over $4 trillion
Removed health coverage for more than 10 million Americans
Slashed Medicaid by nearly $1 trillion, affecting 15 million people
Cut $300 billion from food and nutrition programs serving 42 million Americans, mostly children
Reduced investment in conservation and renewable energy
Expanded subsidies for fossil fuels and lowered royalties for coal and oil companies
Impact on Montana
These cuts will have dire consequences for farms, ranches, and rural communities.
Without a reauthorized Farm Bill, producers will lose things such as emergency payment support for tariff impacts, timely conservation program payments and adequate staffing and technical help from USDA offices
