Youth recognized for excellence during MFU’s 109th Annual Convention

Several Montana youths were recognized for exhibiting exceptional leadership qualities during Montana Farmers Union’s 109^th Annual Convention held Oct. 17-19 in Whitefish.

Amiya Smith from Great Falls, Joseph Mikulecky from Rudyard, Ella Chauvet from Big Sandy, and Huck Turville from Belt received the Mildred Stoltz Award for demonstrating a positive attitude, kindness, strong verbal skills, and knowledge of cooperative principles during MFU’s Summer Camps at Arrowpeak Lodge this summer. In addition to the recognition, the winners also received $50 and a camp scholarship.

“I am impressed with the youth of Montana and proud that MFU was able to reward some of our members. I am excited to see these young leaders grow into the leaders of the future. I am confident we will be in good hands when they take over,” MFU President Walter Schweitzer said.

Each of the award winners were helpful and positive throughout camp, said Jeri Copenhaver, who serves as a camp coordinator at Arrowpeak.

“These outstanding campers consistently went above and beyond, demonstrating a remarkable willingness to assist not only the staff but also their fellow campers. Their positive attitudes played a significant role in fostering a supportive and inclusive camp environment,” Copenhaver said. “They actively engaged with other campers, encouraging and inspiring them to participate in various activities, contributing to the overall success and enjoyment of the camp experience for everyone involved.”

The four campers joined nearly 200 other youths over the course of the summer for MFU’s summer camp programming. Each year, kids from around the state attend camps at MFU’s Arrowpeak Lodge facility, where they learn about agriculture and cooperatives.
