Montana Farmers Union to Attend Fly-In

Farm Programs, Access to Healthcare & Renewable Energy

Among Top initiatives at D.C. Fly-In

Montana Farmers Union staff and members will attend the annual D.C. Fly-In September 10-13 to advocate for Montana farmers and ranchers. The MFU delegation will meet with members of Congress to discuss three major issues: a Strong Farm Safety Net, Access to Affordable, Quality Healthcare and a Transition to a Homegrown, Renewable Energy.

The group will encourage support of improving farm programs, protecting crop insurance increasing access to credit, Medicaid expansion, protections for preexisting conditions, the current system of tax credits and removing legislative and regulatory barriers to higher blends of ethanol like E30 to allow for a transition to a clean higher-blended ethanol fuel.

“Participation in the Fly-in is part of our commitment to provide legislative representation and education to our members,” says President Alan Merrill. “We are pleased to have such a dedicated team joining us to champion for the interests of Montana farmers and ranchers.”

In addition to congressional visits, MFU will attend a National Farmers Union briefing with the USDA and a briefing with the agriculture committee and present The Golden Triangle award, NFU’s highest legislative honor, to Senator Jon Tester and Senator Steve Daines.

MFU members attending the Fly-in include: Tom Clark of Fort Benton, Brett Dailey of Jordan, Ben Peterson of Judith Gap, Scott and Misty LeFurgey of Loma, Jan Tusick of Polson and Kelly Rutledge of Big Sandy.
