MFU Hires new Summer Camp Director/Registration Open
Kathryn Peterson/ New Camp Director
Great Falls, MT- Montana Farmers Union is proud to announce the hiring of Kathryn Peterson as Camp Director. Kathryn was born and raised in Great Falls. She left after graduating high school in 2000 to pursue her education and career. She returned to the place she calls home, where she married her husband Jake who is also from Great Falls. The two were married at the Arrowpeak Lodge. Together they have three children. They are all active and passionate for the outdoors and in their community. Kathryn and her husband also run Ecosanity Janitorial Inc.
Kathryn says one of her goals for camp is to encourage the campers to explore, learn and have fun all while developing basic survival and navigational skills. In addition campers will learn ways to identify various plants, minerals and animals. The campers will also learn about cooperatives. “I want these kids excited about Montana Farmers Union’s heritage and core values. We want camp to help them develop an understanding and ownership of the land and leave equipped with the knowledge to cherish and protect it,” said Kathryn.
As part of the camp curriculum Kathryn encourages members from the community to get involved by volunteering their time to teach the campers a skill. “I would like these kids to leave with a bigger sense of what it entails to be productive member of society and ignite their passion for the natural world and outdoor activities.”
MFU offers four summer camps ranging from 8 to 18 years of age. The cost is $75 for members and $130 for nonmembers.
