Great Falls, MT (February 26, 2019) – Twelve MFU members will represent membership as delegates at the 117th National Farmers Union Convention in Bellevue, WA March 3-5. Delegates to the convention are responsible for reviewing the national organization’s policies, which ultimately provide direction for NFU decision-making and policy priorities throughout the year.
“We are looking forward to helping shape the policy discussion at the national organizational level,” said Montana Farmers Union President Alan Merrill. “We are pleased to bring with us a group of well qualified, knowledgeable delegates to represent our membership.”Over the next several days, attendees will engage with industry experts, policymakers, thought leaders and fellow farmers on topics of vital importance to family farm agriculture. Top of mind for most attendees and speakers are the severely depressed farm economy, agricultural trade disruptions, extreme consolidation in the agricultural sector, climate change and sustainability, and the success of the next generation of family farmers.
The MFU delegates are Tom Clark of Fort Benton, Charlotte Kelly of Chester, Jerilynn Copenhaver of Havre, Sarah Rachor of Sidney; Ron Ostberg of Fairfield, Walter Schweitzer of Geyser, Maggie Shane of Floweree, Erik Kelly of Chester and Lilly Green of Great Falls. Board delegates are Eric Bergman, Jan Tusick and MFU President Alan Merrill.
