90,000 Montanans’ Healthcare in Jeopardy

90,000 Montanans’ Healthcare in Jeopardy

Front and center this week is the Medicaid Expansion Bill, HB 658, which failed to pass the State Senate Thursday with the body locked in a 25-25 tie. Governor Steve Bullock issued a statement shortly after saying, “The 96,000 Montanans who rely on Medicaid expansion don’t have votes to trade.”  An action alert was issued to membership Friday.

Thursday’s tie vote means HB 658 is stalled on the Senate floor and faces a deadline of next to pass over the House. One of the major reforms of the bill is the addition of 80 hours per month of work and public service for certain recipients.  The bill was amended to require verification of eligibility using tax records. Lawmakers will decide if those amendments will stay in the bill. MFU will keep membership appraised on this important legislation.

Let your voice be heard by contacting the below senators ASAP! Tell them that 90,000 Montanan’s healthcare is on the line.
