Montana Farmers Union Delegates to Attend 115th Anniversary National Convention

Great Falls, MT (March 1, 2017) – The National Farmers Union (NFU) 115th Anniversary Convention embodies true grassroots policy making, and seven farmers representing Montana Farmers Union will have a seat at the table this year. Delegates to the convention are responsible for reviewing the national organization’s policies, which ultimately provide direction for NFU decision-making and policy priorities throughout the year.

“We are looking forward to helping shape the policy discussion at the national organizational level,” said Montana Farmers Union President Alan Merrill. “We are pleased to bring with us a group of well qualified, knowledgeable delegates to represent our membership.”

The convention, held this year in San Diego, California, March 5-8, will bring together NFU farm and ranch members, experts and friends of agriculture for meetings, high-level panels, breakout sessions and local farms tours.

“As a farmer-led organization, the state delegates are an important part of our truly grassroots process that takes place at convention. The policies we agree upon each year at our convention are the policies that drive our focus and engagement for the year ahead,” said NFU President Roger Johnson. “We are proud to host this annual event that provides our family farm and ranch members with the opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow through breakout sessions, thoughtful panel discussions and industry tours.”

In addition to the policy consideration process, attendees will hear from two high-level panels on the upcoming Farm Bill and conservation in agriculture, and industry experts focusing on consolidation in the agricultural sector, renewable fuels, and sustainable food production. The convention will also feature  local farms tour, award ceremonies, and a number of NFU education programming events.
